A company owner gets a UAE residence visa through their own company. After the licence is issued, the company registers with immigration (the establishment or immigration card), applies for your entry permit, and you complete a medical fitness test and Emirates ID biometrics in the UAE. The residence visa is then issued and linked to your Emirates ID.
The steps
- Trade licence issued. The visa process starts once the company exists.
- Establishment or immigration card. Registers the company so it can sponsor visas.
- Entry permit. Lets you enter the UAE on the sponsored visa, or change status if you are already in the country.
- Medical fitness test. A short test at an approved health centre.
- Emirates ID biometrics. Fingerprints and photo at an identity centre.
- Residence visa issued. Your residency is recorded and linked to your Emirates ID.
What you need
- Passport valid for at least six months
- Passport-size photo on a white background
- Your company's licence and establishment card (we arrange these)
- Entry permit or proof of current status if you are in the UAE
Family and employees
With your residence visa in place you can usually sponsor your spouse and children, subject to income and housing requirements. Employee visas follow a similar process, with a work permit added for Mainland companies. The number of visas your company can issue is often linked to the size of your office.
What slows things down
- Passport with less than six months' validity
- Photos that do not meet the rules (white background, ears visible)
- Missing the medical or biometrics appointment
- Name spelled differently across documents
Owners who invest larger amounts may qualify for a longer-term Golden Visa. Ask your advisor whether you are eligible.
Frequently asked questions
How long is a partner or investor visa valid?
Usually two years, and some authorities issue longer visas. Your advisor confirms the validity for your licence authority.
Do I need to be in the UAE for my visa?
Yes, for the medical fitness test and Emirates ID biometrics. The other steps can be handled by your PRO.
How many visas can my company get?
It depends on the authority, your activity and your office. A flexi desk usually allows fewer visas than a private office.
